PhD project: Development of novel tunable LASERs based on high electro-optical coefficient material DBR

Swept-source OCT (SS-OCT) requires a tunable laser as its light source. The goal of this project is to develop tunable lasers using electro-optically tuned optical filters. These filters offer the advantage of high speed and can be customized for any wavelength to match the incoming laser. The filters will be fabricated from an LiNbO3 or a Barium-Strontium Titanate placed between distributed Bragg mirrors (DBR), forming a Fabry-Pérot resonator. By applying an DC or RF electric field to the EO material, the resonance wavelength will change, resulting in a tunable optical filter.
